This essay is about corporate identity theory I will be discussing corporate design, corporate communication and corporate behaviour. The channel that I’m going to choose is BBC One.
Corporate identity theory is the image that makes people recognises a corporation, film or business in the mind of the public. This includes customers, investors and employees. They use this by a way of branding their company and the use of a trademark. Once the audience see the indent of a channel the audience will know what channel it is, as the indent is well known e.g. BBC and E4
The BBC one uses a big O that represents the number one. In BBC one and the colour that they usually use so that it can be recognise by anyone that watches BBC one, the colour that they use is red. The reason why they use this type of red is because it is the same shade and the red in the union jack, which represent that, it’s a channel that originated in Britain. This represents how powerful the British Empire was back in the day.
The BBC One 'Circle' indents are a set of on-screen channel identities on BBC One since 7 October 2006. They also feature on the BBC Worldwide channel, BBC America. The indents contain images of circles being formed by nature, or people and their actions. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_One_'Circle'_idents).
In the O of the BBC ones indent the have the name of the channel so that they can be recognized by any one that watches he channel. This channel is manly targeted for 28-40 year olds because some of the shows aren’t suitable for children but there are exceptions where they show children’s programs in the morning but they start showing shows with violence after the watershed.
Corporate communication is how the channel communicates with their audience, this includes adverts, programming Etc.
The channel BBC one has lots of different adverts that are shown of different channel this manly consists of the next episode of a programs, the start of a new program although that BBC One channel doesn’t have adverts on the channel because of the license fee which other channels don’t have. The license fee is where people pay to watch the channel and in return they don’t get any adverts and the show you are watching doesn’t keep stopping and starting.
The Government sets the level of the licence fee. In January 2007 the licence fee was agreed for a six-year period with the amount being approved each year by Parliament. More recently the Government decided to freeze the licence fee at its 2010 level of £145.50 until 31st March 2017 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc/insidethebbc/whoweare/licencefee/).
All BBC channels don’t have adverts while showing something. The programming on BBC is very different to other channels because sometimes when they are showing a movie the will put the news in-between the movie. They will also show the BBC news at sertant times of the day one a 6:00 then again at 13:00 this also show the news from your local area at the same time then again at 18:00 and then the last one at 20:00 again shows the news from your local areas. The also use programming to communicate with their audience because they show sertant shows after 9:00pm which is when the watershed starts which is where the channel can show programs that have sex, violence or graphic scenes but in some programs sertant scenes have been taken out because they have sex, violence or graphic scenes and shown before the watershed. The information that is given out by BBC One is mostly news based as I said before they have news programs throughout the day.
Corporate behavior is the behavior of an organization when considered as a single body. The behavior of an organization is influenced by the arrangements for its ownership and control. When the owner(s) appoint agents to manage the organization, conflicts of interest arise which are studied as the principal–agent problem. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_behavior)
